Today is Father's Day. We bought Dad some treats at the store that you guys were excited to give him this morning. TJ, you had made Dad a card a few days before but you gave it it him last night because you couldn't wait one more day. Hammer, you also gave Dad a rock that you painted a year ago that's been sitting on your shelf. You decided one day that you thought Dad would love it and you couldn't wait to give it to him this morning!
You guys sure love Dad and loved making him smile today.
Let me tell you a few reasons that you are lucky to have Dad:
1. He answers all of your questions. I mean all of them, one after another, unless of course you have asked the exact same question back to back. I often quickly half-answer you when you have asked your 22nd question. Or if you have asked a technical question that I don't think you will understand then I dumb it down. But not Dad. He answer your hard questions with real honest answer and then answers questions to what his answer means. He knows how smart you guys are.
2. He loves to stay home and just be together. He would take staying home over a party or a shopping trip or time with his friends any day. He likes to read books with you, watch tv with you, work in the garden with you, and take Pluto on walks with you.
3. He is careful with money. You are blessed to have never known what hunger is or having to wear raggedy clothes, but Dad also doesn't give you everything you ask for. He teaches you to save up for what you want and that eating out and treating yourself is fun to do occasionally.
4. He loves Sundays. He won't plan anything on a Sunday, even a trip to his Mom's house, unless it's a holiday. He loves to rest and recharge for the coming week.
5. He is adventurous. Dad loves roller coasters and hiking and trying new foods. He tries to get you all to step outside your comfort zone sometimes and try new things too!
6. He works hard. He never comes home and just puts his feet up. He comes home and helps with homework and makes dinner and takes the trash out and mows the lawn. And he gets up early every weekday morning to do a job that supports his family, even though it's not his dream job. Taking care of his family financially is a responsibility that Dad takes very seriously.
7. He is loyal. He will stand up for you and for me and our marriage and for the gospel, no matter what.
8. He loves him Mom. He does everything he can to make her happy and comfortable and safe.
9. He loves me. I've told you before and I'll say it again now that if Lulu marries a man who loves her as much as Dad loves me then I will never have to worry about her. And he is the best example to our three boys of what love really means and looks like.
10. He has a testimony and does the little things every day to keep the Spirit in his life.
11. He loves all of you! He is so proud whenever you reach a goal or a milestone. He thinks you are funny and cute and capable of so much good.
13. Plus he's a great cook. How we have been blessed by that talent!
