Lulu's 6th Birthday

Dear Lulu,

My beautiful little girl, you are 6 years old now!  You feel so old and mature now that you are 6.  You keep telling me that you are almost 8 and can almost go to Activity Days with me now.  I hope the next two years don't fly by THAT fast.
We decided that this year we would have a family party for your birthday, until we realized that no family would be able to make it. So you got lucky and had another friend party this year!  We invited 3 of your best friends who are in your school and church classes.  We had the party right on your birthday, after I came to your morning Kindergarten class. I brought two of your favorite books to read to your class, Wolf and Donald Duck and the One Bear.  Then you passed out a treat to everyone.  You were super excited about the whole deal.  Then I took you home with me and you chose to stop at McDonald's for a Happy Meal lunch.
After lunch your friends came over.  You took them all downstairs where you put on fancy dress ups and danced to music.  Then we came upstairs and openend presents, sang Happy Birthday, had cake and ice cream, and made valentines!  It turned out great, and you were just as excited to give your friends their thank you bags and you were to open your presents!
That's how you are, such a giving person.  I love that about you, except sometimes you are a little too giving. One time you gave your friend some money that you found in the house that wasn't yours!  You just need to learn what things are appropriate to give away.  I hope you never lose your generosity though.
You always want to give your friends treats and cards.
You make cards and pictures all of the time.  I especially love the ones that you write for me, and that say I Love You on them.  They are so cute.
You are very social and love to have play dates!
You are such a sweet girl, always looking out for your brothers. You play really well with Hammer, and tell Mr T all the time how cute he is.
You love to dance, although the strict ballet and tap class that you go to isn't your favorite type of dance.  I don't know how strict your teacher really is with 6 year olds, but sometimes you don't want to go.  I remind you that you will get a new costume and get to be in a recital, and then you want to go to class again.  And every time after class when I ask if you had fun, you tell me yes.  But you still would rather do Lulu dances around the kitchen to our itunes, shaking your hips and waving your arms around.
You love music and often sit down at the piano and make up your own songs.  Sometimes they are actually really good!
You love to help cook, dumping measuring cups and energetically stirring.
You have learned to read so well this year!  I am so impressed with how far you have come.  You are already reading level C books in your class.  You are so smart.
I decided to start reading chapter books with you.  We read a chapter or so each night, and it has become one of my favorite times of the day.  I know you love it too.  We are reading our second Judy Blume book right now.  I loved her when I was little, so I was excited to introduce her to you.  Think of all the fun books we will get to read together!
You love watching shows and playing computer games.  You would do it all day if I let you! Usually I let you do a little computer after you have done your homework, which is 20 minutes of reading.  It's a treat for you!
You watch the things I do, and try to copy them.  One time when I was planning the menu on our calendar you got your own piece of paper, drew calendar squares on it, and filled them in with meals that you thought sounded good.
So I hope that I am being a good example for you to follow.  That makes me a little worried when I think about it.
Sometimes I am lazy.  A lot lately.  I hope I can blame it on this 4th pregnancy!  Sometimes I spend too much time on the computer.  Sometimes I leave a mess in the kitchen.
But I know that you also see me reading with you, and taking pictures of you, and doing some cleaning every day, and planning and cooking healthy meals, and saying prayers. I know you see me learning new things, and making crafts, and playing the piano, and trying to be a good friend.
The beauty of life is that I can keep improving! I can do better at so many things, which gives me comfort when I think of you learning from me.  I am still learning about being a mommy, so thank you for being patient with me and for always telling me that you love me.
You bring me such joy.
Happy Birthday Big Girl!

Love,
Mom

MRLU

Dear Lulu,

You made this picture a few weeks ago, maybe even a few months ago! I can't remember how long it's been hanging next to your bed.  You made it just for fun and then hung it there by yourself.
You named her Marla, or MRLU in Kindergarten spelling.
It has to be the cutest picture ever. I love her red hair and green attire.  It's very Irish looking.
The other day I heard you playing a song on your guitar and singing along with words about a girl named Mrlu.  I think you love this picture too!
So it will hang there as long as the tape lasts, and then I think it's time we start a "Special Box" for you.  Your best artwork and schoolwork and your awards and trophies can be stored in there. I had one when I was little, and it's STILL fun to go through the contents of my Special Box.
I mean, look at these treasures I found in there.
These drawings didn't look familiar at all when I found them a few months ago.  But I must have drawn them some time in Elementary school and my mom thought they were worth saving! I see some similarities between Mrlu and Mr Washington, do you?  My drawings are sitting on the mantle today in honor of President's Day.
I'm in love with these pictures.  I love them as much as I love your picture of Mrlu.

Keep up the creativity my little artist!
Love you,
Mom

Life Lately, January Edition

Dear Family,

January wasn't too great of a month.  Lots of sickiness, lots of freezing cold snow.  Luckily we had Hammer's birthday to spice things up, and a baby shower.  Other than that, it was just winter-life.
See?

Daddy's mustache, that I could not take seriously

Snuggle Bug

Lulu, you wanted me to take a picture of your dress ties wrapped around your arms

I taught you two to play War with playing cards

Lulu, you had a birthday party for a friend and made her a super cute card

Hammer, you got into my mascara

We got a picture of baby number 4, then used it to announce to our friends

Mr T,  you're getting big!

Hammer and Lulu,  you love playing in boxes. And Hammer you love bread, even plain hotdog buns

Hammer, you have a bubble beard here

Mr T, you love bubble bath too

Lulu, here's your baby shower you planned at our house.  Look at all that food!

I made some little signs for the food at Jen's real baby shower

I love baby feet

When Hammer was feeling really yucky Lulu sat by him and read him Dr Seuss

Hammer, here you are looking out the window and waiting to see Lulu's bus pull up and drop her off

Hammer, you were in love with these flowers that slowly bloomed in our kitchen

Lulu, it's so cold every morning when you get on the bus!

Mr T having a little snack

Daddy's made us fires downstairs in our stove, when the air quality has let him.  That wasn't often in January.
The fire is soooo nice and warm!

I'm a little late posting January's pictures.  February hasn't proved to be much different from January.  Sometimes it feels like we're just waiting and waiting for it warm up huh?  If we can get healthy lets do something fun this month!

Love,
Mom

What I Love About You Mr T, part 3

Dear Mr T,

You know what I love about you these days?  You LOVE to wear Daddy's hat.  Every day you find it and put it on and go about your business like it's normal to wear a huge hat that usually restricts part of your sight.

You want to be like Daddy, which is just the cutest thing ever.
Love you Daddy's-little-mini-me,
Mom
